Easy Home Decor Updates That Make a Big Difference

Do you ever look around your home and feel the overwhelming need to throw everything away and start fresh? I am guilty of constantly wanting to move everything around and redecorate. To save my husband’s sanity I decided to make a few easy home decor swaps this year that changed the look and feel of our home.

Decorative pillow covers: A good tip that I learned is to stop buying decorative pillows that don’t have removable covers. Being able to swap out just your pillow covers based on the season is a fun and easy way to change the mood of your room. Storing pillow covers instead of full pillows also takes up less space.

My favorite places to buy pillow covers:

Pillow inserts: If you have decorative pillows at home that you can change the covers of, my next question is are they reaching their full potential? It makes sense that if you purchase 20” pillow covers you would also purchase 20” pillow inserts but that isn’t going to give you the full designer pillow look. The secret is that you need to purchase an insert that is 2” larger than the cover size. For example, my pillow covers are all 20” but I put 22” inserts inside and it makes them full and plush. Don’t forget to karate chop them in the middle too!

Sconces with rechargeable lightbulbs: I am not being dramatic but $70 sconces from Amazon transformed our entire living room area. The home we are in now isn’t our forever home and I knew I didn’t want to spend the money to hardwire new lighting so I discovered the next best option: sconces with rechargeable lightbulbs! The lightbulbs do last us about 2-3 weeks before we have to recharge them but we do only keep them on for a few hours at night. The addition of a sconce completely elevates your entire room.

Curtains: Someone once told me that curtains are the eyebrows of the home and I can’t agree more. Hanging curtains 4-6 inches above your windows creates the illusion that you have massive windows. These don’t need to be expensive either, you can purchase curtains for a great price at Amazon. I will link the pair that I have in my office here.

Rugs : Our previous rug we had was modern and not our style anymore, by switching to a more traditional rug it changed the entire feel of our room.

Tip: Go to your local Home Goods and Homesense weekly and check out their rug selection. We recently had a Homesense open near us and their selection and prices are truly unbeatable! After over a month of trying I finally found the perfect 9′ x 12’x for $499. You can’t beat it!

I do not have a link to our rug but check to see if you have a local Homesense store here

I hope these tips help freshen up your home for the Spring season!
